Kottakkal
Sasidharan Nair is an
internationally renowned classical Indian dancer and Kathakali artist.
He was born on May 24, 1951. His father was Late P. Sankunni Nair and
mother was Late Janaki Amma. His primary education was upto 5th, resides
and works in Ahmedabad. Has trained in Kathakali, Bharatha Natyam, Kuchipudi,
contemporary and Folk dances, he has had a distinguished career as a performer,
choreographer and teacher for past 2 decades. Has done the choreography
for "Mrichchakatikam", an ancient Sanskrit play.
He
learned Kathakali for 8 years in P.S.V. Natyasangham, Kottakkal, under
the famous artist Kottakkal Krishnankutty Nair. Is expertised in "Kathi"
characters. Subsequently, he received training in Bharatha Natyam and Kuchipudi
from the world renowned and Padma Bhushan Award recipient Dr.Mrinalini
Sarabhai, founder-Director of Darpana Academy of Performing Arts.After
that he learned Koodiyattam under Kalamandalam Narayana Chakiyar. Has been
a teacher, resident artist and member of faculty of Darpana Academy since
1973.
Has
performed various dance productions throughout India as well as in Australia,
Canada, China, Cuba, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg,
Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, the UK, the erstwhile USSR and the USA.
He has been a member of the frequently on Dooradarsan and German Television.
Has
received awards from Smt. Indira Gandhi, the Maharajah of Bhutan, etc.He
has his own dancing school, Srushti Foundation, in Ahmedabad.
