Kottakkal Parameswaran Namboothiri (Kochettan) was born on Jan 31, 1937 in Poovakkulath Kuncharakkattu Mana in Koothattukulam. His father is Narayanan Namboothiri and mother is Nangeli Antharjanam.

He learned Carnatic Music from Chembai Vithyanatha Bhagavathar, Chembil Prabhakaran Nair, Cherthala Narayana Panikkar and Olappamanna Vasudevan Namboothiripad. Joined P.S.V.Natyasangham, Kottakkal at the age of 23 and learned Cathakali music under Kottakkal Vasu Nedungadi. After 8 years of studies he continued practise under Kottakkal Gopalakrishna Kurup. He was employed as Kathakali Music Teacher in P.S.V. Natyasangham and retired on Jan 1994.

He has participated in many Kathakali performances all around Kerala and in foreign countries, namely China and North Korea in 1983. Has received the K.N. Pisharody Smaraka Award.

Moreover Kochettan is a very well known painter and has done a lot of portraits and oil paintings.

Family: Wife is Santha Antharjanam and one daughter Jayasree and one son Jayesh.
