Athippatta Ravi was born on Sept 26, 1971. His father is Athippatta Mana Krishnan Namboothiri and mother is Umadevi Antharjanam.

Learned Basics of Music from Vellinezhi Subrahmania Bhagavathar and Kathakali music from Kalamandalam Unnikrishna Kurup. Has won State School Youth festival first prize in Kathakali music in January 1986 held at Thrissur. After Unnikrishna Kurup expired, he continued his studies under Palanad Divakaran. His first performance was on June 12, 1990 at Kanthalloor Temple. Has studied under Kalamandalam Sreekumaran also. He has BA, DPharm from Bangalore University, and BEd.
