History of Mangattukuzhy Temple
This is an ancient temple which is said to be more than 700 years old.
The devine origin is said to be from Azhvanchery in Malappuram (Dt). From there to Velarvettom near Cherthala and one branch of the family came to Velloor and from there to Mangattukuzhy at Neendoor.
Earlier times itself this devine family people are said to be experts in all walks of life including "MANTHRAS, THANTHRAS and WARFARE". They were worshippers of KALARI GODS and skilled in Kalari.
During these period this family had good relations with the king and were powerful with many military leaders. During the peak of glory of this family 2 Brahmin women who escaped from the "Mappila Lahala" joined this family. They joined this Family with the blessings of the Ettumanoor temple with the order of the King.
It is known that this grand old piece of Landscape is owned and protected by "SNAKE GODS". Ignoring these Gods have caused miseries to some extend. The invisible presence of Moozhikulangara DURGA BHAGAVATHY is seen here.
Sree Bhadrakali, Sree Durga Bhagavathy are the main idols here. The Almighties here are powerful and capable of showing infinite blessings. Sri 'BHADRAKALI' is a great "Shatru Samhara Moorthi" (Destroyer of Enemy). So many devotees receive the blessings of Bhadrakali and Durga Devi. We get acknowledgement directly and through letters for the well being of the family, good marriages and getting employment - "Sree Mangattukuzhy Amma" blessing all her devotees.
The earlier temple of God Sivan similar to Ettumanoor Siva temple, was robbed and ruined. It is God's will that a temple similar to that of Ettumanoor Siva Temple with wooden ceiling, planks etc, Bronze or copper coated roof, wooden walls etc. The estimate of such a temple of Ettumanoor Siva with accessories such are Thidappally, Melsanthi Madom office and store rooms, costs Rs. 10 lakhs. The astrologers have predicted that those who are participating in the construction of the Sreekovil, are lucky enough to get blessings from the God Siva.
In 2000 the "Mangattukuzhy Bhagavathy temple trust" was registered at the Sub-registrar office, Ettumanoor. The renovations work started in April 2001 and still going on. On 28-10-02 the foundation stone was laid by "Bhagavatha Hamsam Sree Malliyoor Sankaran Namboothiripad". The first stage was completed and the "Puna prathishta" was done on 26th March 2004.
Now the poojas and rituals are being conducted regularly. Brahma Sree Vijayan Thanthrikal is giving leadership for all the rituals and poojas. The temple is governed by Sree Mangattukuzhy Bhagavathy Kshethram Trust. There is an elected governing body consist of the president, the secretary (Managing Trusty) and 15 board members.
