The Village
Modernisation has greatly
changed the tradition and lifestyle of Naduvattom village, where KNC is
located. Yet some traditions and values have managed to survive over the
years. The paddy fields, sacred groves and temple festivals are still very
much a part of people's lives. Situated near the banks of the river Bharathapuzha,
the village and its nearby areas are historically significant. The banks
of the river were the sites for the Mamankom, a ceremony associated with
display and re-assertion of power of the royalty. Though arts and crafts
are dying away as a family tradition, a few families of potters, bell metal
workers, kalaris, (martial art academies) continue to uphold their tradition
even to this day in the village.
